Cognitive Behavioral Therapist

Susan Haverty MFT is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. She holds a Masters of Arts degree in Counseling Psychology from California State University, Sacramento. She completed an internship at the University of California, Davis Counseling Center. Susan worked for over five years with the Solano County Psychiatric Emergency Team at the Department of Mental Health, treating children, adolescents, adults and families for a wide range of mental health issues.

Since then, she has specialized in treating Obsessive Compulsive Disorder(OCD). The established treatment for OCD is a form of Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy called Exposure and Ritual Prevention. Exposure means you purposely confront situations that trigger obsessions and distress. Ritual prevention means you give up using rituals as a way to reduce obsessions and distress. Susan also takes into account other anxiety or personality problems that may also need addressing. She is uniquely suited to do both cognitive behavioral therapy and/or psychodynamic work when indicated.

If you suffer from an anxiety disorder it is important to work with someone such as Susan who is highly trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and exposure therapy specifically. For the past 9 years Susan has treated anxiety disorders exclusively and is an expert in exposure therapy and anxiety treatment.

Susan worked with Dr. Paul Munford, Ph.D., a nationally recognized expert in the treatment of anxiety disorders. Susan is a member of the Obsessive Compulsive Foundation, and the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists.
